At OQC, we aren’t just theorising about the future; we’re building it. Born from a philosophy of bold innovation, we’ve successfully transitioned quantum computing from an academic dream into a commercial reality. The most exciting thing is that we’re just getting started and we’ve recently closed our £260 million Series C funding round – the largest fundraise ever completed by a quantum computing company in Europe.
The Purpose
As a Data Centre Engineer, you'll help bring OQC's quantum computers into live customer environments across the globe. You'll transform complex engineering knowledge into scalable operational processes, enabling reliable deployments, world-class field support and exceptional customer outcomes.
The Role
Working within our Live Services team, you'll support the deployment, commissioning and ongoing operation of OQC's quantum computing systems in commercial data centres worldwide. You'll collaborate with scientists, engineers and technicians to develop robust operational procedures, deliver technical training and continuously improve the serviceability and reliability of our cutting-edge technology.
What You'll Be Working On
Support the deployment, installation and commissioning of quantum computing systems at customer data centres around the world.
Develop and maintain clear technical documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and training materials to enable safe, repeatable field operations.
Act as the technical bridge between OQC engineering teams and smart hands technicians within commercial data centre environments.
Support preventive and corrective maintenance activities, providing technical support remotely and on-site during deployments, upgrades and service interventions.
Capture lessons learned from deployments and maintenance activities to drive continuous improvements in procedures, training and product design.
Work closely with engineering teams to improve system reliability, serviceability and operational efficiency while ensuring compliance with health, safety and quality standards.
Build strong relationships with internal teams, customers, suppliers and data centre operators to support successful global deployments.
What We're Looking For
Experience working within a data centre, critical infrastructure, field service or technical operations environment.
Experience developing technical documentation, work instructions or standard operating procedures.
Experience delivering technical training or mentoring engineers and technicians.
Experience working directly with customers or third-party contractors during technical deployments.
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills with a structured, methodical approach.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Highly organised with strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise work in fast-paced deployment environments.
Relevant technical qualification or equivalent practical experience supporting complex engineering or technical projects.
Willingness and ability to travel internationally without restrictions.
The 'Nice-to-Haves'
Experience working with cryogenic systems.
Experience installing, commissioning or maintaining complex electromechanical or scientific equipment.
Team leadership experience.
Excellent communication skills.
