About the role

Sunspeed Solutions is looking for an experienced, motivated and reliable Data Centre Engineer to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer who takes pride in delivering high-quality work, enjoys working as part of a team and can confidently take ownership of tasks independently.

You’ll support a varied range of projects across the UK and internationally, including data centre installation and infrastructure, structured cabling, hardware replacement, troubleshooting and commercial office fit-outs. You’ll have the opportunity to continue developing your skills and grow alongside our company.

Key responsibilities

· Carry out the installation, racking, stacking and removal of servers, switches and associated data centre equipment.

· Install, route, organise and patch fibre-optic and copper cabling.

· Support commercial office fit-out projects, including cabling and associated infrastructure installation in line with project requirements.

· Read and follow patching schedules, rack face layouts, work orders and technical documentation.

· Work with patch panels and connectivity infrastructure, ensuring installations are accurate, neat and completed to the required standards.

· Identify, investigate and troubleshoot fibre, copper and hardware connectivity faults.

· Assist with server and network hardware installation, replacement and removal, including components such as power supply units (PSUs) and PCI cards.

· Complete assigned work safely and efficiently, checking completed installations and reporting issues through the appropriate channels.

· Maintain accurate job records, update ticketing systems and communicate progress, faults, delays and risks.

· Take ownership of assigned tasks, use initiative and lead jobs or support other engineers when required.

Essential skills & experience

· At least four years of relevant, hands-on data centre experience.

· Practical knowledge of data centre infrastructure, including racking, stacking, fibre and copper cabling.

· Ability to interpret patching schedules, rack layouts and job-specific instructions accurately.

· Troubleshooting skills relating to fibre and copper connectivity.

· Sound understanding of patch panels and data centre cabling infrastructure.

· Experience using ticketing systems and maintaining accurate work records.

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

· Good communication skills, a professional attitude and a commitment to quality and safety.

· Technical training, an apprenticeship or equivalent practical training.

Experience replacing server and network hardware components, such as PSUs and PCI cards, is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will be dependable, adaptable and committed to delivering work to a high standard. You’ll be comfortable following established procedures, taking responsibility for your work, communicating effectively with colleagues and customers, and escalating issues when necessary.

Working arrangements

· Full-time employment on projects across the UK and internationally.

· Willingness to travel and work away from home when required.

· Flexibility to support early starts, night shifts, out-of-hours work and finishing later than planned at short notice when required to complete jobs and meet project deadlines.

· Travel and accommodation arrangements may be required depending on project location.

Why join Sunspeed

Join a growing company where you can make a meaningful contribution to project delivery and the team’s success. This is an opportunity to develop your technical capabilities, take on new challenges and grow alongside SunSpeed Solutions as the business continues to expand.
