Front End Software Engineer

Position Description
At CGI, we create digital solutions that help leading organisations transform how they operate, deliver services, and create lasting value. As a Front End Software Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing and building intuitive, high-performing web applications that make a real difference for our clients and their users. Joining our growing Software Engineering Capability team in Scotland, you'll collaborate with talented colleagues on meaningful projects, contribute ideas that shape modern digital experiences, and have the opportunity to develop your expertise in a supportive environment where innovation, ownership, and continuous learning are part of everyday work.

CGI was recognised in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work List 2025 and has been named a UK ‘Best Employer’ by the Financial Times. We offer a competitive salary, excellent pension, private healthcare, plus a share scheme (3.5% + 3.5% matching) which makes you a CGI Partner not just an employee. We are committed to inclusivity, building a genuinely diverse community of tech talent and inspiring everyone to pursue careers in our sector, including our Armed Forces, and are proud to hold a Gold Award in recognition of our support of the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant. Join us and you’ll be part of an open, friendly community of experts. We’ll train and support you in taking your career wherever you want it to go.

Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. This is a hybrid position.

Your future duties and responsibilities
In this role, you will design, develop, and enhance modern front-end applications that deliver seamless digital experiences for our clients. Working as part of collaborative Agile teams, you'll translate user and business requirements into responsive, accessible, and scalable solutions while partnering closely with UX designers, back-end engineers, product teams, and stakeholders. You'll have the opportunity to influence technical decisions, champion engineering best practices, and contribute to the continual evolution of our front-end capability.

You'll be encouraged to take ownership of your work, share ideas that improve delivery, and help foster a collaborative engineering culture where quality, innovation, and continuous improvement are valued. Your contributions will directly support the successful delivery of impactful digital services across a range of client engagements.

Key responsibilities:

• Develop & Deliver responsive, accessible, and high-performing web applications.
• Transform & Build UI/UX designs into clean, reusable, and maintainable code.
• Collaborate & Integrate with back-end engineers to consume REST APIs and services.
• Optimise & Enhance application performance, scalability, and cross-browser compatibility.
• Troubleshoot & Resolve front-end issues through effective debugging and problem solving.
• Review & Improve code quality by participating in peer reviews and promoting engineering best practices.
• Test & Validate solutions through unit and integration testing.
• Innovate & Evolve by evaluating emerging front-end technologies and recommending improvements.
• Deliver & Contribute within Agile Scrum teams to achieve successful project outcomes.
• Champion & Maintain accessibility, security, and web standards across all solutions.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role
You'll have strong commercial experience developing modern front-end applications and a passion for creating intuitive, high-quality digital experiences. You'll be comfortable working within Agile delivery teams, collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders, and applying modern engineering practices to build scalable, secure, and accessible web solutions. A continuous learning mindset and commitment to engineering excellence will help you succeed in this role.

Essential qualifications and experience:

• Strong commercial experience with HTML5, CSS3/Sass, JavaScript (ES6+) and TypeScript.
• Proven expertise in at least one modern framework such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
• Experience integrating and consuming REST APIs.
• Strong understanding of responsive web design and web performance optimisation.
• Experience using Git for source control and collaborative development.
• Knowledge of browser developer tools for debugging and optimisation.
• Experience writing unit and integration tests.
• Understanding of accessibility (WCAG) standards and secure development practices.
