Kickstart Your Career in IT with McHale Komatsu!

Are you passionate about technology, enjoy solving problems and looking for an opportunity to start your career in IT?

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated IT Apprentice to join our team at McHale Komatsu, based at our Redditch Head Office.

Working alongside our IT Manager, you'll gain valuable hands-on experience supporting colleagues across the business, troubleshooting everyday technical issues and developing your knowledge of IT systems, networks and cybersecurity.

Alongside your day-to-day role, you'll work towards a nationally recognised Level 3 Information Communications Technician Apprenticeship, delivered by LearnTech.

Whether you're leaving education, looking to take your first step into IT or considering a change in career, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn, develop and build the foundations for a future in technology.

What You'll Be Doing

As our IT Apprentice, you'll play an important role in supporting the smooth running of our IT services. With guidance, training and support, your responsibilities will include:

  • IT Helpdesk Support: Responding to IT enquiries, logging support requests and helping colleagues resolve everyday technical issues.
  • Hardware & Devices: Setting up and configuring laptops, PCs and mobile devices, alongside troubleshooting hardware and software problems.
  • User Accounts & Access: Supporting new starters and leavers with IT access, account setup and password resets.
  • Microsoft Technologies: Gaining practical experience with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Intune and other business systems.
  • IT Equipment Management: Helping maintain accurate equipment records, tracking devices and supporting upgrades and replacements.
  • Systems & Suppliers: Working with external IT providers to help resolve technical issues.
  • Learning & Development: Building your understanding of networking, cloud technologies, IT infrastructure and cybersecurity.

As your skills and confidence develop, you'll have the opportunity to take on more technical responsibilities and expand your experience across different areas of IT.

About Your Apprenticeship

You'll complete the Level 3 Information Communications Technician Apprenticeship with LearnTech, combining structured online learning with practical experience in the workplace.

Your training will include:

  • Approximately 13–15 months of apprenticeship training, followed by a 3-month End Point Assessment.
  • Weekly online theory sessions delivered through Microsoft Teams.
  • A minimum of six hours per week of dedicated off-the-job training, subject to programme assessment.
  • Access to online learning resources, practical IT labs and industry training platforms.
  • Monthly one-to-one mentoring sessions to support your development.
  • Regular progress reviews involving you, your manager and training provider.
  • Opportunities to complete additional professional IT qualifications included within the apprenticeship programme.

You'll develop valuable technical knowledge while working towards a recognised qualification and gaining practical experience in a real business environment.

What We're Looking For

You don't need previous professional IT experience to apply! We're primarily looking for someone with the right attitude, enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • A genuine interest in IT, computers and technology.
  • Basic computer knowledge and confidence using digital devices.
  • An inquisitive mind and a logical approach to solving problems.
  • Good communication skills and a friendly, helpful attitude.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • A willingness to learn new skills, take feedback and ask questions.
  • A reliable, proactive approach and the ability to work as part of a team.

It would also be beneficial if you have some familiarity with Windows, Microsoft 365 or have enjoyed troubleshooting computers or other technology in your own time, but this isn't essential.

What We Offer

At McHale Komatsu, we believe in investing in our people and supporting their development. Alongside the opportunity to gain valuable IT experience and a recognised qualification, you'll benefit from:

  • Competitive salary: £25,000 per annum.
  • Generous annual leave: Up to 27 days' holiday, plus bank holidays, plus Christmas shutdown.
  • Pension scheme: Subject to eligibility.
  • Employee wellbeing: Access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) and Lighthouse Charity support.
  • Death in service benefit: Providing additional financial protection for your loved ones, subject to scheme terms.
  • Career development: Ongoing training, mentoring and opportunities to develop your skills and progress your career.
  • Recognised qualifications: Fully supported Level 3 apprenticeship, with access to additional professional IT qualifications.

You'll be joining a supportive team where you'll have the opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues and explore different areas of IT, including technical support, infrastructure, cloud technologies and cybersecurity.

Apprenticeship Eligibility

As this position forms part of a funded Level 3 apprenticeship programme, applicants must meet the relevant apprenticeship funding and eligibility requirements, including residency and right-to-work criteria.

The programme is designed for individuals looking to develop new technical knowledge and skills. Previous higher-level IT qualifications, extensive IT work experience or certain professional IT certifications may affect eligibility.

Applications will be reviewed in conjunction with our training provider, LearnTech, who will assess eligibility based on previous qualifications, training and experience.

Applicants must also have the right to work in the UK.

Ready to Get Started?

If you're enthusiastic about technology and excited by the opportunity to build a career in IT, we'd love to hear from you!

Apply today and take your first step towards a rewarding career in IT with McHale Komatsu.
