Job Description

This is a free training course followed by the potential for a role with one of our clients. Title: DevOps Engineer

Job location: Remote, UK (1 day per fortnight in London or Manchester)

Description: These job roles are linked directly to free education, and upon completion of our course, you will be equipped to start your new role.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • 1.5+ years of experience in a technology-focused role using Python

  • Able to pass a technical assessment in Python, Java or Javascript

  • Commitment to complete a 16-week, part-time course to develop your mid-level skills

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build & Streamline CI/CD Pipelines: Design, implement, and maintain robust GitOps pipelines using GitLab CI/CD, Helm, and ArgoCD to automate software delivery.

  • Drive Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Develop and optimise infrastructure using Terraform and related automation tools across hybrid cloud environments.

  • Modernise & Migrate Workloads: Support the containerisation and migration of legacy batch components into modern Kubernetes and OpenShift environments.

  • Enhance Platform Reliability & Security: Ensure continuous delivery ecosystems align with AWS best practices for scalability, security, and high availability.

  • Collaborate Across Engineering Teams: Partner with application and infrastructure teams to streamline version control, manage artifact registries, and eliminate deployment friction.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Hands-on CI/CD & GitOps Expertise: Practical experience with automated delivery pipelines and modern GitOps tools (e.g., GitLab CI/CD, Helm, ArgoCD, Flux, Jenkins, or Terraform).

  • Containerisation & Orchestration Skills: Strong working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes ecosystems (Red Hat OpenShift experience is a major bonus).

  • Automated Scripting & Problem-Solving: Ability to automate repetitive tasks and optimise workflows using languages such as Bash, Python, or Go.

  • Hybrid & Cloud Platform Knowledge: Hands-on exposure to public, private, or hybrid cloud environments (such as AWS, IBM Cloud, GCP, or Azure).

  • Collaborative DevOps Mindset: Proven ability to work constructively at the intersection of development and operations in a team-focused environment.

SKILLS YOU'LL DEVELOP

  • T-Shaped Skill Set: become the go-to person for your technical specialism in addition to building on your collaborative skills to understand and empathise with other tech roles and stakeholders

  • Technical Leadership: you'll develop your technical professional skills across mentoring, teamwork, stakeholder communication, and technical decision-making to put you on the pathway to senior individual contributor or technical management roles.

  • Agility & Automation: taking part in modern software development process, you'll further develop your Agile, DevOps and automation skills, deploying to the cloud.

  • Innovation & Inclusive products: by building products with DE&I at the core, you will further harness additional techniques in the software development process to foster the development of inclusive products.
