Position Overview

Job Title Senior Java Engineer – Fixed Income Pricing and Analytics

Location London

Corporate Title Vice President

You will play a key role in transforming the Rates and Credit Fixed Income technology landscape. As part of a multi-year modernisation programme, you'll help build a next-generation pricing and analytics platform. Traders will rely on it every day to price and manage risk across a wide range of Fixed Income products. Our goal is a new suite of real-time, high-performance, cloud-native services that will fundamentally change how our trading desks work.

We deliver the transformation iteratively. Small, cross-functional teams ship value to the business in frequent increments, learn from real usage and progressively replace legacy capabilities with modern services. You'll help shape the target architecture, champion engineering best practices and work closely with traders and other business stakeholders. Together you'll build a maintainable, observable and scalable platform designed to last the next decade.

What we’ll offer you

A healthy, engaged and well-supported workforce are better equipped to do their best work and, more importantly, enjoy their lives inside and outside the workplace. That’s why we are committed to providing an environment with your development and wellbeing at its centre.

You can expect:

  • Hybrid Working - we understand that employee expectations and preferences are changing. We have implemented a model that enables eligible employees to work remotely for a part of their working time and reach a working pattern that works for them
  • Competitive salary and non-contributory pension
  • 30 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, with the option to purchase additional days
  • Life Assurance and Private Healthcare for you and your family
  • A range of flexible benefits including Retail Discounts, a Bike4Work scheme and Gym benefits
  • The opportunity to support a wide ranging CSR programme + 2 days’ volunteering leave per year

Your key responsibilities

  • Design and build a new suite of real-time, low-latency Java services for Rates and Credit pricing, axes, risk and analytics workflows
  • Break down a complex legacy landscape into well-defined, incremental deliverables, and use Agile practices to progressively modernise the platform and get new capabilities into traders' hands early
  • Work directly with traders, quants and business stakeholders to understand pricing workflows, refine requirements through fast feedback loops and deliver high-impact features
  • Work with front-end engineers to design end-to-end solutions, including streaming APIs that drive real-time trading UIs
  • Raise the bar on engineering quality through code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD and observability, with full ownership of the services you build, from design to production
  • Influence the technical direction of the platform, mentor other engineers and lead adoption of modern tools, frameworks and AI-assisted development practices

Your skills and experience

  • Expertise in Java development: a proven record of building complex, high-performance applications in modern Java. You have a deep understanding of concurrency, memory management, garbage collection tuning and reactive programming. Experience with Kotlin and Spring Boot is a bonus
  • Distributed, event-driven systems: a strong grasp of distributed system design and event-driven architecture. You've worked with messaging technologies such as Solace or Kafka, and with distributed caching
  • APIs, data and cloud-native delivery: experience designing REST, gRPC and streaming APIs (SSE or WebSocket), and solid SQL and relational database design skills. You've deployed and run containerised services on Kubernetes in production, with modern observability tools such as OpenTelemetry
  • Technical leadership in transformation: a track record of leading large-scale modernisation programmes through iterative, Agile delivery. You drive engineering excellence through test automation, CI/CD, code reviews and sound architectural decisions
  • Domain knowledge (desirable): experience with Fixed Income products, electronic trading, pricing or market data. Curiosity and a willingness to learn the domain matter more than prior exposure
  • Proven ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, optimise workflows to solve business problems, while applying critical judgment to ensure responsible and ethical use of data and AI outputs

How we’ll support you

· Training and development to help you excel in your career

· Flexible working to assist you balance your personal priorities

· A culture of continuous learning to aid progression

· A range of flexible benefits that you can tailor to suit your needs
