Role Overview

As a C++ Software Engineer at TP ICAP you will develop and maintain high-performance C++ systems that power price discovery and analytical solutions across multiple asset classes. Working alongside Senior and Principal Engineers, you will take part in the analysis, design, development and testing of new features and changes, and see them through to production. You will also work directly with end users, including the quant team and brokers on the desk, to understand their needs and turn them into working software. Our codebase spans legacy and modern C++, so you will help keep established systems stable while contributing to an ongoing effort to modernise them. It is a good fit for an engineer early in their career who wants to grow their technical and domain expertise in a real-world financial technology environment.

Role Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and test C++ features, and see them safely to production
  • Work across legacy and modern C++, modernising while keeping systems stable
  • Help estimate work and discuss solutions with the team
  • Learn the domain and codebase from Senior and Principal Engineers
  • Support directed refactoring towards target-state architecture
  • Contribute to the team's SDLC: planning, prioritisation and delivery
  • Work directly with end users (quants and brokers) to deliver what they need

Experience/Competencies

Essential

  • Degree in a technical subject or equivalent industry experience
  • Around 2–3 years' commercial C++ experience
  • Proficiency in modern C++ (C++11/14/17 or later)
  • Solid understanding of the STL, memory management, RAII and pointer semantics
  • Comfortable communicating directly with non-technical users
  • Comfortable using debuggers and diagnostic tools to investigate issues
  • Willingness to work in a mixed legacy and modern codebase
  • Growth mindset and eagerness to learn from experienced engineers
  • Experience of the software development lifecycle in a technical role
  • Familiarity with unit testing (for example Catch2 or similar)

Desired

  • Experience with multithreading and concurrency
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, ideally GitLab CI or similar
  • Interest in financial markets and OTC products (rates, swaps, bonds, credit)
  • Experience with real-time, networked or low-latency systems
  • Experience with performance profiling and optimisation
  • Experience packaging and distributing libraries (for example NuGet)
  • A general-purpose scripting language (such as Python, Perl or Ruby)
  • Windows PowerShell or Linux shell experience
  • Exposure to other languages such as C#, Java or Python
  • Awareness of secure coding practices (SAST)
