Solution Architect

Position Description
At CGI, we're helping organisations transform their technology landscapes through innovative, secure and future-focused solutions that deliver lasting business value. As a Solution Architect, you'll play an important role in shaping technology solutions that address complex challenges, improve services and support our clients' digital transformation ambitions. You'll take ownership of solution designs, explore emerging technologies and collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to turn ideas into practical outcomes. Working alongside experienced architects and multidisciplinary teams, you'll have opportunities to influence architectural decisions, develop your expertise and contribute creative approaches within a supportive environment that encourages professional growth and shared success.

CGI was recognised in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work List 2025 and has been named a UK ‘Best Employer’ by the Financial Times. We offer a competitive salary, excellent pension, private healthcare, plus a share scheme (3.5% + 3.5% matching) which makes you a CGI Partner not just an employee. We are committed to inclusivity, building a genuinely diverse community of tech talent and inspiring everyone to pursue careers in our sector, including our Armed Forces, and are proud to hold a Gold Award in recognition of our support of the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant. Join us and you’ll be part of an open, friendly community of experts. We’ll train and support you in taking your career wherever you want it to go.

Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. This is a hybrid position.

Your future duties and responsibilities
In this role, you will take ownership of designing and developing technology solutions that meet business requirements and align with architectural best practices. Working independently on defined, lower-risk solutions and collaborating with senior architects on more complex initiatives, you will translate business and technical challenges into clear, effective architectural designs. You'll build strong relationships with stakeholders across technical and business functions, ensuring solutions are practical, well understood and aligned with organisational objectives.

You'll also contribute to the continuous improvement of architectural practices, exploring emerging technologies and identifying opportunities to enhance existing solutions. As part of a collaborative architecture community, you'll be encouraged to share ideas, influence technical discussions and strengthen your professional expertise while receiving guidance and support from experienced colleagues.

Key responsibilities:

• Design & Deliver: Take ownership of solution architecture for defined projects, ensuring designs align with business requirements, technical standards and architectural best practices.
• Collaborate & Influence: Build effective relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring solutions meet organisational needs and expectations.
• Communicate & Simplify: Explain complex architectural concepts, technical decisions and potential risks clearly to stakeholders at different levels, including senior management.
• Develop & Document: Produce architectural diagrams, solution designs and technical documentation that establish a shared understanding across delivery teams.
• Innovate & Improve: Identify opportunities to enhance technology solutions, processes and architectural practices through emerging technologies and innovative approaches.
• Support & Contribute: Work alongside senior Solution Architects on more complex initiatives, contributing technical expertise and supporting successful project delivery.
• Manage & Align: Balance stakeholder expectations, technical requirements and delivery constraints to ensure effective solution outcomes.
• Advocate & Engage: Represent architectural decisions and delivery team perspectives in stakeholder discussions, helping resolve challenges and maintain alignment.
• Assure & Optimise: Apply established architectural principles, standards and governance processes to maintain solution quality and consistency.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role
To succeed in this role, you should have experience contributing to solution architecture or technical solution design, alongside strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills. You'll be comfortable translating business requirements into practical technical designs, explaining complex architectural concepts to different audiences and working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams. A proactive approach, curiosity about emerging technologies and a commitment to continuous improvement will help you succeed, while CGI's supportive architecture community will provide opportunities to strengthen your expertise and progress your career.

Essential skills and experience:

• Solution Architecture: Experience designing or contributing to technology solutions that meet business needs and align with architectural principles and standards.
• Stakeholder Communication: Proven ability to communicate complex, sensitive or high-risk architectural topics clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Senior Stakeholder Engagement: Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders, adapting communication styles and influencing technical discussions.
• Stakeholder Management: Ability to manage expectations, build relationships and advocate for delivery teams across business and technical functions.
• Architecture Documentation: Experience producing solution designs, architectural diagrams and documentation that communicate technical approaches effectively.
• Technical Problem-Solving: Ability to assess requirements, identify architectural challenges and develop practical, effective solutions.
• Architecture Best Practices: Understanding of established solution design principles, architectural governance and technology standards.
• Innovation & Improvement: Ability to identify opportunities to improve existing solutions and apply emerging technologies or approaches where appropriate.
• Collaboration & Teamwork: Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and contributing to shared delivery objectives.
• Ownership & Organisation: Ability to manage defined architectural responsibilities independently while recognising when senior architectural guidance is required.
