London, United Kingdom

We are seeking an experienced Technical Lead / Solutions Architect to lead the design, development, and delivery of enterprise architecture solutions across a complex business systems environment.

Working within a large-scale organisation undergoing continued digital transformation, you will be responsible for defining architecture strategy, ensuring alignment between technology and business objectives, and providing technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of business-critical systems, applications, infrastructure services, and cloud-based platforms.

Alongside your architectural responsibilities, you will provide leadership and line management for a team of four technical specialists, supporting their development while driving the delivery of strategic technology initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of enterprise-scale business systems and technology solutions.

  • Act as the principal technical authority for business applications, platforms, integrations, and supporting infrastructure across both on-premise and cloud environments.

  • Develop architecture roadmaps that align technology investments with organisational objectives and digital transformation programmes.

  • Ensure solutions are scalable, resilient, secure, and adaptable to evolving business requirements.

  • Define and maintain architecture standards, governance frameworks, policies, and technical documentation.

  • Review project and change initiatives to ensure alignment with strategic architecture principles and long-term technology goals.

  • Provide technical leadership across enterprise applications, identity services, security architecture, integrations, and infrastructure platforms.

  • Identify opportunities to optimise systems, improve service delivery, reduce costs, and maximise value from technology investments.

  • Support the adoption of cloud, managed, and hosted services where appropriate.

  • Contribute to business cases, technology strategies, and operational planning activities.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation to understand business requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.

  • Ensure all solutions incorporate appropriate levels of security, performance, resilience, accessibility, and compliance.

  • Lead service transition, quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Work closely with senior technology leaders, project teams, suppliers, and governance boards.

  • Provide day-to-day leadership, mentoring, and line management for a team of four technical professionals.

About You

You will bring a strong combination of enterprise architecture expertise, technical leadership experience, and excellent stakeholder management skills.

Essential Experience

  • Extensive experience as a Solutions Architect, Enterprise Architect, Technical Architect, or Technical Lead within a large and complex environment.

  • Proven track record designing and delivering enterprise-scale business systems and application architectures.

  • Experience across cloud and on-premise technology environments.

  • Strong understanding of architecture frameworks, standards, and governance.

  • Experience developing technology roadmaps and strategic architecture plans.

  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure, applications, integrations, identity management, and security architecture.

  • Experience leading technical teams and managing technical professionals.

  • Ability to engage confidently with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and business analysis capabilities.

  • Experience contributing to digital transformation and organisational change initiatives.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within Higher Education, Public Sector, or similarly complex organisations.

  • Knowledge of enterprise systems such as ERP, HR, Finance, CRM, Service Management, Identity Management, Student Systems, or comparable business-critical platforms.

  • Experience working with Technical Design Authorities or architectural governance boards.

  • Understanding of sustainability and green IT principles.
